Weekend Getaways for Couples in the USA

Are you considering a romantic weekend staycation for couples in the USA, here are some amazing places to visit.

Chincoteague, VA

A hidden beach gem that is ideal for a getaway is the beautiful Chincoteague Island in Virginia. Located about two hours north of Virginia Beach, Chincoteague is a more affordable (and less crowded) option for travelers.

Chincoteague and its neighbor Assateague are a great mixture of nature and relaxing beaches. One of the best things to do in Chincoteague is to see a sunrise at the beach. While the sunsets are also gorgeous, to see the sunrise above the water is truly breathtaking. Since Chincoteague is not as well known as Virginia Beach or Ocean City, Maryland, the beaches are much less crowded!

If you would like a break from the beach, there is plenty of nature to explore. You can visit the Wildlife Loop Trail which is a great paved path for biking. You can see a variety of birds but also the Assateague Ponies. These ponies are unique to the island and are the stars of the top annual festival – the Annual Pony Swim! This event is held in July to raise funds to take care of the herd. You can even get a beautiful view of the area at the Chincoteague lighthouse.

One of the best things about visiting Chincoteague is the thirty-seven miles of beach! There are plenty of places to get away from the crowd. The affordability, beautiful beaches, and wonderful nature make Chincoteague a great hidden gem!

Fredericksburg, TX

Fredericksburg is a charming town boasting its traditional German architecture in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.

Founded by German immigrants, this little town is perfect for a romantic getaway in Texas as it has lots of history and coziness.

For instance, the Vereins Kirche Museum in the Marktplatz is an incredible reconstruction of the original building created by the German settlers in the state. It showcases both historical photos and artifacts portraying the German-Texan culture. The first construction served for multiple purposes, including as a school, fortress, and a church.

After exploring downtown, head over to one of the world-class wineries in town, which is one of the most romantic things to do in Fredericksburg, Texas. Boasting over 50 cellars, tasting rooms, and wineries, Fredericksburg is the perfect place to unwind with your significant other while sipping some high-quality wine in the heart of the Texas Wine Country.

In a nutshell, you and your boo can experience not only how the German and Texan cultures blend so perfectly but also the southern hospitality.

So next time you plan your weekend getaway, be sure to check out this lovely Texan town. You won’t regret it!

Nantucket, MA

Nantucket, Massachusetts is a great place for a weekend getaway for couples. With the quintessential Downtown featuring shops and restaurants, but also some of the island’s best museums to learn about its history, like Nantucket African American Museum, Nantucket Shipwreck and Lifesaving Museum, and Nantucket Whaling Museum. Nantucket is also the perfect destination to explore by bike.

There are many bike renting companies and the biking trails cover the whole island. It is the best way to practice responsible tourism on the island as there are a lot of endangered turtles that walk out on the road. By minimizing car traffic, these animals have a bigger chance to survive.

However, if you see turtles on the road, don’t try to lift them up as some of them can bite pretty hard. There are hiking opportunities through lush, green forest trails past lakes, and with chances to see wildlife like deer and rabbits.

Head to Siasconset for the beach and to see some of the oldest buildings on the island. Walk the Sconset Bluff Walk to Sankaty Head Lighthouse. If you get there for sunset, it is one of the most romantic places to be. In the summer, during the whale season, you can even go on a whale safari.

New York City

There’s no other city in the USA that has been able to replicate the buzzing energy that New York has, making it a perfect backdrop for romance among the city lights.

Take a horse-drawn carriage ride through famous Central Park as you cuddle close. Enjoy the scenery of one of the best city parks in the world while feeling like you’re royalty in a stagecoach. Later, rent a boat to row around the Lake. Visit the Empire State building, popular in many romantic movies. Arrive in time for sunset and enjoy the change from day to night into the glistening city lights with views that seem to go on forever. Enjoy a romantic sunset cruise around NYC Harbor. Take a stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge for more panoramic views. After, take a ride (or two) like teenagers in love on Jane’s Carousel.

There is no shortage of incredible New York experiences to share with your partner in the city that never sleeps. However, with the sense of rush on the streets of NYC, remember to take a step back and relax with the one you love instead of trying to jam-pack your schedule.

A weekend in New York is sure to make you fall not only deeper in love with your partner, but with New York City as well. Love is certainly in the air in New York!

Oahu

Hawaii is a dream destination for those who are looking for relaxing weekend getaways for couples in the US. You can enjoy some great weather, unwind and relax. While there are several great islands to choose from, Oahu is our top pick! It has the perfect mix of beautiful beaches to enjoy, so you can really take it easy, but it also has so many activities if you feel like being a bit more adventurous.

If you do feel like relaxing on the beach for a few hours then there is no better choice than Lanikai Beach on the east side of the island. You and your partner will love it as it is a gorgeous stretch of palm tree lined white sand, with turquoise water and stunning views out over the Mokalua Islands.

If you feel like getting out to explore then we highly recommend a visit to Kualoa Regional Park which is where parts of the original Jurassic Park were filmed. You can even take a quad tour through the park. The views from the beach at the north end of Kaneohe Bay up to Kualoa Park are also impressive plus you have Mokoli’i island on the other side. A great way to spend a few hours is to jump in a tandem kayak and paddle out and around Mokoli’i island.

Oahu is a beautiful island and you’ll fall in love with its spectacular scenery, endless beaches and its laid back culture.

The Poconos

One of America’s most serene and peaceful destinations is the Pocono Mountain region in northeastern Pennsylvania. It’s also a fantastic location for romantic weekend getaways for couples in the US.

In the Poconos, you’ll find a region of forested peaks and mountain lakes. There are miles of hiking trails with waterfalls bubbling streams cutting through the landscape. The natural beauty of the area is enchanting and provides plenty of seasonal activities for those who visit the Poconos.

During the winter, the region is Pennsylvania’s best skiing destination and ski resorts like Camelback, Big Bear and Montage Mountain fill with active couples hitting the slopes. The Poconos is also full of luxurious cabins and most Poconos Airbnb homes rival high-end resorts. In the fall months, leaf peepers flock to the Poconos for the incredible fall foliage and many towns hold autumn festivals.

The spring kicks off the beginning of the hiking season with trails reopening across the Poconos. Paintball, ziplines, antiquing, and boating adding to the fun for couples – there’s truly something for everyone. In the summer months, active couples can take to the Lehigh River Gorge for whitewater rafting excursions.

It’s also the perfect time for swimming, jet skiing, and boating on the mountain lakes in the area. Arrowhead Lake, Lake Naomi, and Lake Wallenpaupack are some of the most romantic places to relax and enjoy some “couple time”.
